I'd like to talk about a skill I've always wanted to learn, um, which is playing the piano.
What you get after every answer
Which sound went wrong
Every word scored for pronunciation, and every sound inside the word scored too. IPA names the one you tripped on.
Four criteria, four bands
Fluency & Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range & Accuracy, Pronunciation — each with its own band and a line saying why.
Hear yourself back
Your recording sits beside the model answer, so the difference is something you can hear.
Common questions
Does an accent cost marks?
No. An accent is not marked down. What is marked down is a sound wrong enough to be misheard — a dropped ending, a misplaced stress, a missing final consonant.
What microphone do I need?
A phone microphone or earbuds are enough. A noisy room or an answer that is too short will pull the pronunciation score down.
Can I practise single questions, or must I sit a whole test?
Either. A single part can be marked, and so can a full three-part test.
