If + past perfect, would + V
Mixed conditional: nói về một điều kiện trong quá khứ (không xảy ra) và hậu quả ở hiện tại / hiện tại tiếp diễn.
A past condition (which did not happen) with a present result or situation.

“If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.”
Nếu tôi đã học ngành y, bây giờ tôi sẽ là bác sĩ.
“If she had taken the job, she would live in London now.”

Lỗi thường gặp
If I had studied harder, I would have a better job last year.→If I had studied harder, I would have a better job now.
Người Việt dễ nhầm thời điểm kết quả: dùng 'would have + past participle' (quá khứ) thay cho 'would + V' (kết quả hiện tại). Cần tương ứng quá khứ trong if-clause với kết quả ở thì phù hợp.
If she had gone to university, she would have a degree.→If she had gone to university, she would have a degree now.
Câu sai vì thiếu rõ ràng về thời điểm kết quả; nếu muốn nói kết quả hiện tại phải thêm 'now' hoặc dùng 'would + V'.

Đồng nghĩa

Cấu trúc: If + past perfect (had + past participle), would + base verb. Dùng khi điều kiện trong quá khứ khác đi thì kết quả bây giờ sẽ khác. Lưu ý phân biệt với third conditional (would have + V3) — đó là kết quả ở quá khứ.
Quá khứ (had + V3) → hậu quả bây giờ (would + V).
Cấu trúc mixed conditional kết hợp hình thức của third conditional (had + V3) với would cho kết quả hiện tại.
